Wonderfully done and painfully accurate. One cannot go thru life looking in the rearview mirror or you will miss the "bend in the road". Our past lays the foundation for our decisions of today and those decisions shape our future. You and Scott have laid the foundation on solid bedrock and the result are the intelligent, vibrant & superb young adults you have raised so well. I hope Titus had a great day and many more to come.

Beautiful poem, friend. Happy birthday to your youngest! Your thoughts on how and how often to look back are helpful for me. It can give me an ache to feel it slipping by, and yet this present moment is just as precious and just as fleeting even though it feels utterly normal.

Thank you!

I have the same ache, but of course you knew that. It is a wound and strength we mothers bond over. It is like Jacob's limp - proof that we have been touched by the divine (because what is motherhood but a calling from God?) but no one who encounters the divine walks away unscathed

Oh my goodness. Tearing up all over again. Jacob's limp. Yes, you're right. My oldest and I were packing up his things today, trying to decide what to bring to college and what to leave at home. I am very much scathed. Thank you for reminding me that "no one who encounters the divine walks away unscathed." I am so thankful for your voice here, Esther.
